Regional Planning
Overview
This Section forms part of the Directorate Corporate and Strategic Services and manages regional planning (IDP), Local Economic Development (LED), Performance Management, Risk Management and various Regional Municipal Projects within the Central Karoo District.
INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLANNING (IDP)
The IDP is the business plan of the Municipality and seeks to bring about integrated development planning and budgeting in the Central Karoo District area.
The Municipal Systems Act (MSA) Act 32 0f 2000 requires municipalities to develop Integrated Development Plans which should be single, inclusive and strategic in nature. The IDP of a municipality will guide development within the council‘s area of jurisdiction, once adopted, and is also reviewed annually to incorporate any changes.

LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (LED)
The purpose of our Local Economic Development (LED) office is to build up the economic capacity of a local area in order to improve its economic future and the quality of life for all. The District Municipality has plays a significant role in the economic development of the area by: employing people; purchasing goods and services; developing infrastructure; and by regulating the development of land.

Overview
The Central Karoo District Municipality is responsible for providing Disaster Management Services throughout the Central Karoo Region, which includes municipal areas of Beaufort West, Prince Albert and Laingsburg municipalities.
Our Disaster Management Centre strives to effectively plan for and minimize the impact of disasters on the community, visitors, infrastructure and environment through:
- Developing sufficient capacity within the Disaster Management Unit and improve communication with stakeholders
- Managing risk to the environment by conducting risk analysis at municipalities, develop and implement standards
- Responding to all disasters and provide sufficient support during incidents
- Implementing systems to mitigate risks through training, awareness, and communication

Overview
This Department ensures the establishment of an inclusive tourism industry throughout the Central Karoo District. This is achieved through sustainable development and marketing which is public sector led, private sector driven and community based.
Our core function is to actively introduce tourism potential within the region, the Province, the country as a whole, as well as foreign countries where possible. We coordinate the marketing actions of local government, the private sector and other institutions within the area in order to utilize our tourism potential optimally. In addition, we strive towards continues development of tourism in general through the placing of additional tourism activities.
